2015 - Present
I launched this site as a side project, having spotted a gap in a niche market that could be filled. It soon took off running and became my full-time job. As it required me to wear several different hats, it's easily the most technically experiential role I've had.
I've broken this entry out into its own page, as I feel this job truly encapsulates all my skills/abilities.
Sep 2014 - Mar 2015
As the sole designer on staff, I was tasked with a bit of everything. From designing print flyers, leaflets, and ads, to coding emails, and publishing fluid/responsive HTML templates to the company's bespoke CMS. Sideways from this, just generally offering advice and expertise on design/technical methods to strengthen brands and work processes.
Mar 2014 - June 2014
Using a variety of bespoke tools, I'm refreshing and updating content for all Apple online store in EU territories (20 countries in total). Special considerations must be made for the application of certain text strings and assets from countries with elongated words and phrases. Work meets specific, and crucial deadlines and revisions. I'm using HTML, CSS, and Photoshop, as well as learning a number of CMS-specific strings to quicken production.
Oct 2013 - Jan 2014
Working on site overhaul and optimisation for investment company in financial sector. Building upon a WordPress backend, and using a Bootstrap framework to create an easily navigated, and responsive user experience for all browsers. CSS3 and jQuery are used to bring certain elements to life.
Jul 2013 - Sep 2013
Redesigning the company's high-end online magazine using WordPress, with special consideration for different content types and methods of delivering pages in unique styles. Responsive design elements were employed, as well as jQuery to deliver dynamic content.
Apr 2013 - Jul 2013
Responsible for a redesign of their customer portal, and, as a sideline to that, the creation of a creative styleguide. Considerations for a technically adept grid system were made, allowing the website to be prepared for an easy switch to fluid and responsive design principles. Assets were also designed with the foresight for use on iOS/Android apps.
Oct 2012 - Dec 2012
I was hired to help coordinate and publish a variety of style guidelines, as well as helping compile a robust and logical pattern library, focusing on core UI elements which appeared frequently and were consistent throughout the site. These guides were brought together and published online using WordPress.
I was also given the rather big task of calculating and prototyping a site-wide shift from a 6-pixel to 4-pixel baseline grid, this involved mocking up and testing various page templates in order to get an A-B comparison ready. Considerations were made throughout the process for the end-user, particularly the performance of the new grids on smaller resolution browsers, and mobile/tablet devices. I was responsive/fluid-layout aware during my protoyping, seeking to make use of existing responsive frameworks.
Apr 2011 - Sep 2012
Refreshing online advertisements and the design of various pages on the Thomson and First Choice websites. Also produced and coded pages in the social media spectrum, mainly for Facebook and Twitter, using a tool called Wildfire. I also designed and coded the Thomson Blog on a Wordpress backend.
I've recently been designing pages for a site-wide overhaul, based on detailed wireframes and adhering to strict new style guildelines and standards.
Apr 2011 - Sep 2012
I was recruited to help update and maintain their Currys, Dixons, and PC World websites. Tasks included creating merchandise webpages and visuals, and working with major brands such as Sony, Microsoft, and Logitech. Each task I was assigned adhered to a strict and specific brand guideline and met often difficult deadlines. There were also considerations for usability and UI/UX that needed to be made, including the ability to code all pages with cross-browser compatibility in mind.
Oct 2005 - Mar 2010
Got my start taking various short-term roles around my home town while at university and college. Most notable amongst these were overhauling websites for a group of private medical practices, designing a site for a telecomms upstart, and a brief stint designing merch for the UEFA Champions League.
